In 1945 the largest military airfield in the world was at Walter Field (now called Waller Field) in East Trinidad.

During WW II the US naval Base at Chaguaramas was to be the largest in the world.

Robert Moreira - (Gulf War vet) Awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star (US), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), and the Defence of Kuwait medal (Kuwait). He left Trinidad when he was 3 years old and returned in 1976 for a year when he attended Rosary Boys' RC School then returned to the US.
